Did you get to the Put a Sunflower On It event? I know some of you did. Our artists stayed overtime putting sunflowers on everything from lawn furniture to candy jars.
Our thanks to the Prairie Rose group and to Charlene Jones for painting the sunflowers on everything you could imagine. Thanks to Charlene for making the giant sunflower frame so people could get a photo with their face in a sunflower. Thanks to all of you who came out and made the day really fun. And especially thanks to our director Rose Heiser who keeps everything running smoothly!

Mandan Art Hosts Yarn Spinner’s Demonstration
30 May 2011 Comments Off
The Mandan Art Association will host a demonstration of the North Dakota Spinners Saturday, June 4, at the MAA Gallery, 411 W. Main St. 1 – 4 p.m.
Spinners use traditional treadling wheels and spindles to transform fleece and other materials into yarn. “Bamboo, silk, cotton, corn, alpaca—any kind of fiber there is can be spun into yarn,” says spinner Shayne Bjorndahl. In fact, she says some even use plastic bags to spin a material they call plarn.
The group says spinning is quickly rising in popularity, and it’s not just for the homemade yarn.
“The act of spinning itself is highly soothing, meditative and peaceful once you have learned the skill,” says spinner Dawn Wetzein. “It’s very addictive once you get the hang of it.”
The demonstration is free and the public is invited to visit the gallery throughout the afternoon to observe and talk to the artisans.
Later this summer, Mandan Art will continue its celebration of the fiber arts with a month-long exhibit of textile and fabric work in July.
For more information, mandanart.org or call 701.751.4331. Contact the North Dakota Spinners at 701.663.4255 or write Shayne Bjorndahl at shayda@q.com.
